This condition is a narrowing of the cervical spine, which is the spinal canal in the neck. Symptoms can include neck pain and stiffness, numbness, and pain in the arms and shoulders. Other potential symptoms include balance issues and incontinence. Often, nonsurgical care can bring relief to cervical stenosis symptoms, but surgery is sometimes required to handle this condition.
Spinal narrowing, herniated discs, trauma, tumors, scoliosis, and genetic diseases can lead to lumbar stenosis, a condition that causes spinal cord and nerve pressure between the ribs and pelvis. Symptoms include pain, stiffness, cramping in the calves, loss of motor function in the legs, and more. Treatment options range from pain medications, cortisone injections, physical therapy, and spinal surgery.
Complex Spinal, Neck, and Back Disorders
There are a number of intricate disorders that can affect the spine, neck, and back, including both degenerative conditions and traumatic injuries. Examples include autoimmune conditions, degenerative disc disease, herniated discs, scoliosis, spinal fracture, spinal stenosis, and tumors. Symptoms, such as pain, numbness, muscle spasms, balance problems, and mobility issues, may worsen over time if not treated.
Types of brain tumors include gliomas, choroid plexus, embryonal, germ cell, and pituitary. Brain tumors can start in the brain or spread from other locations. Treatment options include chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery.

This condition leads to pressure on the spinal cord, the group of nerves that runs along the spine. Scoliosis, bone diseases, arthritis, tumors, injury, or other conditions can lead to spinal compression. Symptoms include pain, weakness, and balance problems. Both nonsurgical and surgical spinal decompression can be used for treatment.
The peroneal nerve is near the knee and is responsible for motion within parts of the leg, foot, and toes. Injuries, medical conditions, and compression can all affect the peroneal nerve, leading to shin and foot pain, foot and toe weakness and numbness, and difficulty lifting the front part of the foot. Non-operative and surgical treatments are available.

Dr. John Dickinson finished clinical clerkships in Eastern Idaho. He has an undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University, a degree in medicine from the Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences, and he completed neurosurgery training at the Advocate BroMenn Medical Center.
Jordan Mecham
PA-C
Certified physician assistant Jordan Mecham is a graduate of Brigham Young University-Idaho and graduated from the physician assistant school at Idaho State University. He specializes in neurological care and has spent his medical career in the area of spine and neurosurgery.
Thomas Scruton
PA-C, DMSc
Thomas Scruton is a certified physician assistant with a doctor of medical science degree. Thomas is a graduate of Saint Francis University and has experience in hospital medicine, orthopedic care, and neurological surgery. He is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons.
